Do I Spend More Than I Earn?

How can I make more money? How can I get started today?

“How come you’re not doing well, financially?” he asked her, inquisitively.
“Well, I haven’t had a pay rise in a couple of years — what I earn — that’s all my company pays,” she replied, feeling a twinge of guilt and shame.
She knew he was asking from a place of love, but still, it hurt being called out like this. She didn’t like being called out, whether it was true or not.
“That’s not true,” he replied. “That’s all the company pays you; it’s not all the company pays”.
Ouch, she thought.

“Are there people in your company that get paid four or five times what you get paid? He continued, stroking the side of his face, deep in thought.
“Yes”, she replied, glumly, her head now looking at the floor.
“If you were four or five times more valuable than you are now, do you think you could get paid 4–5 times more?” he asked.
He looked at her thoughtfully, full of hope, and at that moment, she got it.
She had an aha moment.
“Yes!” she shrieked back, delighted, shifting her stance to stand tall, and she smiled a little cheeky smile—the smile of a woman about to change her life.
“So why don’t we go to work on that?” he asked.

If we want to get paid more, we need to offer more value.
We need to become more valuable.

We need to work on ourselves to increase our value, skills, capabilities, core competencies and bring these to the marketplace.
To a specific marketplace, where we can delight people, clients, companies and corporations with what we have to offer.

The changes don’t need to be radical. The key is just to get started.

Want to be more influential? Be a better presenter?
If we start making three presentations in a day, that’s over 1000 thousand presentations in a year.
A thousand presentations as a goal or outcome seems like too many to do.
But three? It’s do-able. Even better, start tinier than that.
Then continuing, practising, taking action—and not getting caught up in life—well, that’s super important.

Not to give in to the temptation to be careless and let our practice slide.
Not to give in to the stuff that comes up in life.
Not to go back to old habits.
Instead, to focus on designing a life we want. That we love.
Full of action,
Daily action,
And consistency.
It’s essential to start, then to continue and not go back to our old way of being.

We get paid for the value we bring to the marketplace.
