Free online courses aren’t really free. Here’s why.

I had a great chat with a fellow coach earlier today.
We discussed life, industry, opportunities, challenges, what’s next, collaborations, clubhouse, coaching life, strategy, and more.
It’s been a while since we spoke, but I get a sense of deep connection every time we do.
That of a kindred spirit;
Of someone, I want to make more time for.

And yet, he lives halfway across the world.
In a different time zone,
In a land far, far away.

And I think of the magic that had us meet.
The communities,
And people,
We choose to invest our time with really matter.

When we choose a new opportunity,
Something we will invest significant time learning,
Teaching, doing,
The community we will mix & mingle with will become a new form of family.
We become like each other.

The ideas—
What we do, create and share,
Will become part of our identity,
When we embrace them at our core.

So will the mindsets we adopt,
The principles, values and beliefs we judge and often emulate,
And the behaviours or actions we model and take.
Our standards rise or fall with the quality of the peer group we have around.

Why does any of this matter?
It seems like free courses, training and conferences are the new normal,
With click funnels, selling programs, packages, products and services at the end of each speakers presentation,
Amongst other ways to make revenue.
So they aren’t really free at all, are they?

At best, we learn some amazing new ideas,
Or ways of doing things, resources, networks etc.,
At worst, it’s an absolute waste of time.

If you’re thinking about what’s next,
Thinking about this is important,
It’s critical, really,
To know the true cost of what what you’re signing up for.

Ask yourself?
What are the values, beliefs, principles of this group/person?
Will they hold me to a higher standard?
Will they help feed my mind? And vice versa?
What kind of energy do they have?
Will I be bombarded with people trying to sell their stuff—stuff I don’t want, need or desire?
Or even worse—that’s toxic,
Emotionally triggering or energy depleting.
Ain’t nobody got time for that.

We have to stand guard at the door of our minds,
Whatever information we are feeding our mind on a daily basis,
And we focus upon consistently,
We experience as being what life is really about.

If we don’t discipline our fears and control our focus,
The world will gladly do it for us.
It’s our choice,
And completely within our power,
To choose what we focus on.

So choose wisely.
