Thunderstorms in my mind.

The Blues,
SAD.
Depression.
This is how it feels for me.

Like a thunderstorm in my mind.
Like darkness.
Like a storm cloud has taken over.

But, I know for sure,
It’s temporary even though in this moment it feels permanent.
Even though I’m never sure how long it will last.
Even though I am a meaning, making machine,
Looking for reasons why,
When truthfully, there may be none.
Our brains are a bit tricky like that.

If you’re in this place—if you’re feeling blah, meh, blue, not the dream, down, depressed or otherwise—you’re not alone.

Each year 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health illness, and nearly half the population of NZ will experience one form of mental illness or another during some point in our lifetime.

We are not stuck, even though it may feel that way.
We can’t eat, drink or sleep our way out of this.
Workouts are helpful.
Water works wonders.
Early nights are our friend.
Cleaning up helps us feel more in control, but it’s a band-aid.
Watching TV and upbeat whos or reading books work too.
Writing or journal is one of the best things we can do for self-care when we are in a dark place.

Keep on keeping on, my friends.
After every winter is spring.
After the lows come the highs,
Every breakdown leads to a breakthrough.

Who knows what the next one will bring?
