You know what to do. So why don’t you do it?

Apparently, a whopping 92 per cent of people who set New Year’s goals never actually achieve them. Failing to meet goals is pretty frustrating and can set you back.

Some of us say we lack motivation.
Some of us say it’s procrastination.
Others of us say we are lazy.

Whatever we call it, if we have intentions, goals, outcomes — stuff that we would like to be doing, and we are not, here are three ways to get started today—

1# Get an accountability partner.

An accountability partner is a partnership where you mutually agree to coach each other and provide feedback on a regular basis. With an accountability partner, you each agree to talk daily or weekly through feedback sessions where you share wins, share your goals & outcomes, make commitments and talk about your current challenges. Make sure you agree on the timeframe, schedule meets in the diary, and write the commitments down.

2# Use a habit tracking app.

There are a bunch available on the iTunes app or via Chrome extensions, or even paper/journals and planners. I’m not a huge fan, but these work for some people.

3# Hire a coach

Once you do, you’ll never go back.
And the good news? Most offer free discovery calls so you can see if you’re a ‘fit’ before working together before a long term commitment.

Let’s dive into the world of coaching.

What is coaching, exactly?

Coaching is a process that aims to improve performance and focuses on the here and now rather than on the distant past or future.

What is a coach?

A coach works with clients to prepare them for performing at their peak by developing skills that will help that person achieve specific outcomes, aspirations, goals — to get what they are really after. A great coach will also help you overcome the barriers that get in the way or have stopped you in the past.

How do they achieve this?

They don’t. You do. Coaching doesn’t work unless you work. Instead, coaches will help you shine a light on what you’re doing and how your processes may or may not work for you. If you want someone to do the work? You probably want a freelancer, EA, or to outsource the stuff.
Like me, some coaches are also strategists and help with the gameplan, strategy, and roadmap.
There is no one right way.

Each coach will have a ‘toolkit’ they customise and use for clients.

In my experience, a great coach will customise everything for a specific client, for your specific outcomes, and the tools, resources and environment you have to achieve the outcome presently.

Some coaches will say they are your thought partner, and everything you need is inside yourself, and they are there to ask you questions and perhaps provide accountability, but not to provide strategy. That is a completely valid method of coaching, so really do your research before you invest in a coach. It is a partnership.

Your coach will be your guide with a plan.
They will help you on your journey by—
Offering fresh perspectives.
By asking new questions and being your thought partner.
By challenging your limitations and breaking down your barriers.
By making change easier to do.
